New Finds

A few new cd's that have come out or I have found recently:
Rogue Wave - Descended Like Vultures, I had been meaning to buy this album for the longest time and I finally got it. This is an amazing album. It kind of sounds like the Shins/Beatles a little. It is hard to describe, but all in all it is a solid album. Sample: "Bird On a Wire"

Cat Power - The Greatest; Cat Power is a female singer who has a beautiful voice. This album expands her sound with accompanying horns and drums. Sample: "Living Proof"

Explosions in the Sky - The Earth is a Not a Cold Dead Place; I just found out about this band. If you like the ambient Sigur Ros' type music you will love this. There is no singing, but some powerful instrumentals.

Bonnie Prince Billy - Summer in the Southeast; I was very hesitant about this album at first. I said, "Bonnie live sounds like nothing I want." I was proven wrong. This album is better than his studio albums. Trust me. He speeds up most of the songs, and they are presented perfectly. Sample: "Master and Everyone"

Fruit Bats - Spelled in Bones; This is another band similar to The Shins/Beatles. I would highly recommend this cd. Sample: "Lives of Crimes"

Stroke your Animal Power

Two new cd's i got recently were The Strokes - First Impressions of Earth; and Animal Collective - Feels.
The new Strokes album has been ripped to shreds by the critics. I personally love the album. The first song, "You Only Live Once" is my favorite song on there. Other good ones are "15 Minutes" and "Electricityscape." It sounds different than the other albums to me, but in a good way. Don't let number 2 "Juicebox" scare you away from the album. It is my least favorite song

Animal Collective is a strange cd, but good. It is very different than most things so beware if you don't have an open musical mind. (Don't feel bad though I still can't bear Deerhoof).

Bonus: There is a good Cat Power show at

New Music: The Shout Out Louds and Devendra Banhart

A couple of new cd's I am listening to are Shout Out Louds' "Howl Howl Gaff Gaff" and Devendra Banhart's "Cripple Crow."
Cripple Crow is good from start to finish. A little warning: it is a little strange, you may want to sample to make sure you like his voice. Notable songs include: "Feel Like a Child" and "Chinese Children.

The Shout Out Louds sound somewhat like Clap Your Hands with a little more "poppy" sound. The whole cd is pretty solid. My favorite songs are "The Comeback" and "Very Loud."
