TUESDAY: Another Great CD comes out: MATES OF STATE

This Tuesday go buy Mates of State's "Bring It Back." Forgive the comparisons, but Mates of State sound like New Pornographers and Stars mixed. I have heard most of the songs off "Bring It Back," and all of them are very good. Pitchfork reviewed it today and gave it a 7.8. Anyway, listen for yourself.Punchline My new favorite blog iguessimfloating has more.

What a minute....Pitchfork was right...THE NEXT BIG ONE.....BAND OF HORSES

Alright, alright. Pitchfork sometimes stabs themself, but this time they are right. Band of Horses is the real deal. Pitchfork gave them an 8.8. Granted, they are not the most original sound because exactly like My Morning Jacket mixed with Shins. Throw in a small bit of a softer Jane's Addiction, and this is what you get. I don't care though I love both of those Gi-Lorious bands. Pssst...They are a lot better than Tapes n Tapes. Funeral

I have also become a big fan of Jose' Gonzalez. The music is somewhat slow and dark, but it has something amazing about it. His voice is almost eerie yet beautiful. He kind of reminds me of a male version of Tracy Chapman (not to scare people off) Here is a song with Zero 7 Download Futures and Download Crosses (Live)

Down with Wilco in Nashville

The Show:
This was most certainly one of the best Wilco shows I have ever seen. The band came out with lap steels and acoustic guitars and played tons of Woody Guthrie, then after about 8 songs of alt country, they tore down the house with harder stuff.

The Venue:
Ryman=perfect as usual. I do think I like the balcony seats better because of the sound.

The Crowd:
The crowd was actually an older crowd of the mid 20's to 30's...a lot different than the recent shows I have been attended. The crowd was very much into the show also. Unlike typical hipsters, this crowd was singing and dancing the whole time.

The Highlights:
At the very end of the show, Jeff came back out for a third encore and said "I am going to do this like it is supposed to be done here" (at the Ryman). He played Acuff Rose with no mics or P.A.'s. It was amazing. Everyone was dead silent and it sounded perfect. Also, I must mention Kidsmoke and At Least that's What You Said. Those are some of the best live songs they have. When these songs kicked in, all the lights in the places flashed in unison and lit up the whole place while everyone was headbanging and dancing.

"After the show you walked right past":
After the show, I met Jeff again and got a pic. He was very friendly. Then I saw Glenn Kotche, and he told me to go to Roberts (a bar in Nashville). We hung out with them at the bar most of the night. After trying to buy all them shots, I talked to John Stirratt(bassist) for a while. He said he has been listening to Aphrodite's Child, Silver Jews, and AC Newman. The band hung out in the bar until closing time and then headed to Fayetteville.

The Setlist:
Sunken Treasure (Being There)
Remember the Mountain Bed (Mermaid Ave II)
Airline to Heaven (Mermaind Ave II)
At My Window Sad and Lonely (Mermaid Ave I)
Forget the Flowers (Being There)
When the Roses Bloom Again (Chelsea Walls Soundtrack)

Belle and Sebastian and New Pornographers Live at the Ryman in Nashville, TN

NEW PORNOGRAPHERS

First of all a bit of advice if the ticket says 7:30 be there then. We missed almost half of the New Pornographers because we came at 8:00. They only played an hour(maybe). What is the deal. First of all No Dan Bejar from Destroyer, No Neko Case, what? Then I call that A.C. Newman. Anyway, sadly I was not that impressed with them even though I love them. They really didn't get into it and they didn't really sound that great. Everything was kind of muffled and staggered. You could not even here the drummer singing Jackie....Guess what it was not Dan Bejar, why act like it is?????? The crowd was horrible during NP also. Here is the setlist of the second half of the show.

From Blown Speakers - (Electric Version)
Bones of an Idol - (Twin Cinema)
The Slow Descent into Alcoholism - (Mass Romantic)
Jackie - (Mass Romantic)
Spanish Techno - (Twin Cinema)

BELLE AND SEBASTIAN

Interaction with Crowd:
On the other hand, Belle and Sebastian was an A+. They interacted with the fans more than anyone I have ever seen, including inviting a girl up on stage to dance, getting guy up on stage and calling his buddy who went to the Atlanta show but didn't come to Nashville, asking the crowd what was to be the last song, and pointing out some girl who had a strange outfit on, but he loved it.

Are They Gay?
I say no. Stuart made a comment that he feels "gay" dancing up there by himself, which was hilarious by the way. He danced the whole time, and it was so comical yet awesome. He also said that he needed a girl to dance with up there. Verdict, I don't think Stuart is gay.

Crowd:
Absolutely amazing. Everyone knew almost every song. The new songs are for sure a hit.

Highlight:
I would have to say Electric Renaissance. The lights were flickering red and blue like a disco, and they danced their hearts out.

Venue:
Of Course the Ryman was incredible. They were very honored to be playing there.

Setlist:
Almost Perfect. Obviously, I could think of songs they could have played but they have a million songs, so I was satisfied.

Here is some rare Death Cab for Cutie.
Free Fallin' (Tom Petty Cover)
Bad Reputation (freedy Johnston Cover??)
Blue and Wonder (Richard Buckner Cover)

Also, a disgrunted ex wrote a song about me called "Bad Boy Clyde" it is by Esthero. Check it out on iTunes. Here are the lyrics

Bad Boy Clyde

She knew this love would break her heart
But rebellion always turned her on
She liked the dangerous type, pullin' stick up heists.
Waitin' for him to come around so they could be alone
And she would say…

Bad Boy Clyde, you know you drive me wild
Put away your gun, why don't you play with me?
Rollin' with your boys, you're always on the run
For just this once, why can't you stay with me?

She had a gut feeling, call it intuition
Wishing that it would subside
It's just a day like any other, there's no need to cause a fight
He has to go, his boys are counting on him, you know
Oh my my…

Bad Boy Clyde, you know you drive me wild
Put away your gun, why don't you play with me?
Rollin' with your boys, you're always on the run
For just this once, why can't you stay with me?
[2x]

Thinkin' about, thinkin' about the life that we have
You're always on the run (you were always running around)
Thinkin' about what you take for granted
And if you cared about yourself, you'd let go baby

(The cycle never ends)

I love me, I love me some bad bad boys
