Backyard Tire Fire Live at Larry's Coming Up on Saturday, March 17th

Top 25ers of 2007 Backyard Tire Fire will be bringing their whiskey-bent twangers and beer-raising ballads to Oxford, MS, this Saturday. I've been looking forward to this one for a while. Should be an amazing show. BYTF will be releasing The Places We Lived in August!
Check out new tunes on Daytrotter
or download a live EP on their website.

Promo:

The past fourteen months have been a whirlwind for BTF, who are comprised by lead vocalist, guitarist and chief songwriter Ed Anderson, bassist Matt Anderson and drummer Tim Kramp. In February 2007, the band released Vagabonds & Hooligans, a pinnacle recording that has gone onto become their best selling album to date and which made several bloggers year-end "Best of 2007" lists. On the road, BTF performed over 200 shows in 2007, highlighted by key support slots for artists ranging from JJ Grey & Mofro, Cracker and Clutch and festival dates including Wakarusa, Mountain Jam and Twangfest.

2008 has already been a great year for the band. They've toured with Australia's Beautiful Girls, New Orleans' The Radiators, and are currently on tour with Reverend Horton Heat. Their March was highlighted by a performance at Langerado Festival in Florida (headlined by R.E.M. and Beastie Boys), as well as exclusive web-performances on influential sites like Daytrotter.com and SunStudioSessions.com. The band recently signed a record deal with NY based independent label, Hyena Records, which was founded by the late legendary Atlantic Record's producer, Joel Dorn. Their first album on Hyena is slated for an August release and will be named The Places We Lived.

New Ratatat Album out July 8th

Sure to be another highlight of the great music coming out this summer, Ratatat will be releasing its third full-length album entitled LP3 on July 8th. As Clyde has nodded to in his Monthly Mixtape, these guys put out some infectious guitar and big-beat-driven hip-hop electronica, which is undeniably catchy. Their self-titled debut was subtle yet funky, and Classics (released 2006) was stellar and bombastic, and has been spinning on my running mixes for some time now. Can’t wait to hear the new one (and the predicted LP4 too) and hopefully they’ll hit a few southern locales on a supporting tour. Check out their website for a free download of their hip-hop mixtape. Here is an mp3 B-side from the upcoming album. Shiller

New Music Tuesday

Of course, Death Cab for Cutie releases Narrow Stairs, which actually sounds pretty good. The sound is quite a bit darker and strays away from their teeny-bopper sound they were beginning to shade toward.

Alt-Country pioneers Old 97's release Blame It on Gravity

Andrew Bird's right hand man Dosh releases Wolves and Wishes.

The Black Angels release Directions to See a Ghost.

Freak folkers Veviter release Thing of the Past

Blog-hyped flops We Are Scientists release Brain Thrust Mastery.

Live Music in Saint Aug

Discovered a great venue last weekend while in St. Augustine, Café Eleven . Located south of town in St. Aug Beach, this place is very small but had an impressive lineup of acts: Vampire Weekend, Tapes 'n Tapes, The Helio Sequence, Over the Rhine, Mountain Goats, Cold War Kids, Explosions in the Sky, and more. Didn’t get to see a show while I was there, but they also have an outstanding brunch on the weekends (omelette & pancake bar) and the house music playlist is sweet. Hopefully I will get by to hear some music next time.

Langhorne Slim's new album and tour through B'ham.

I have heard miscellaneous buzz around Langhorne Slim in the past few months. After seeing Bob Crawford of the Avett Brothers wearing their shirt, I figured, why not? So I purchased the new Langhorne Slim yesterday, and must say I am most impressed. Similarities of Dylan, Avett, Magic Numbers, and Black Crowes come to mind. Truly, the whole album is quite solid from beginning to end. Definitely, has a hint of alt-country twinged in it. Accordions, twangy guitar riffs, and violin are just a few accompaniments that bolster Langhorne's voice.

Hail from: NY/CA
Website: Myspace
Standout Tracks: "Restless," "Rebel Side of Heaven"
For Fans of: Dylan, Avett Brothers, Felice Brothers, Black Crowes
